Last month's arrival of Winnipeg's first Victoria's Secret location saw 250 people line up a couple of hours before the store's opening. Beefy suit-wearing bodyguards let a few people in at a time, just as if they were watching the door at the city's most exclusive dance club.
The 9,500-square-foot store at Polo Park Shopping Centre, one of the biggest non-anchor stores at the mall, is decidedly "man-friendly," according to local marketing expert Robert Warren, because it has plenty of sales staff, welcoming displays, a large entrance and lots of lighting.
This opening was merely the warm-up act, though. At press time thousands of Winnipeggers have November 28 circled on their calendars because that's the day that Ikea finally arrives.
