A 5,000-square-foot gaming centre is under construction on the second floor of downtown mall cityplace.

It will be owned by True North Sports & Entertainment, owners of the MTS Centre and the Winnipeg Jets, and run by Manitoba Lotteries.

It will be connected to the Jets' home arena by a skywalk and be accompanied by a sports bar. Once it opens, 50 video lottery terminals (VLTs) currently in operation at the Tavern United pub and restaurant, also adjacent to the MTS Centre, will be removed. True North receives gaming revenue from these VLTs currently.

The gaming centre concept was announced back in the spring of 2011 when the return of the NHL was confirmed. It will have 140 slot machines when it opens some time this spring, as well as poker and blackjack tables.
