The Stewart Southern Railway (SSR) has officially opened along one of the longest and straightest stretches of rail in the world.
"When I started three-and-a-half-years ago, Fill-More Seeds was my company," explained Blair Stewart, president of Saskatchewan's 11th short-line railway. "We export peas and lentils around the world. So, without a rail line, it was kind of hard [to expand]."
Stewart Southern Railways acquired the 131 km line earlier this summer from Canadian Pacific Railway for an undisclosed amount. The SSR line will have economic implications for communities in the heart of Bakken oil field boom, Stewart said.
