Saskatoon cracks $1B in building

As of the end of October, the City of Saskatoon had issued $983 billion in building permits, ahead of last year and apparently on track to set an unprecedented $1 billion in construction values this year.

As of the end of October, the City of Saskatoon had issued $983 billion in building permits, ahead of last year and apparently on track to set an unprecedented $1 billion in construction values this year.

About 60 per cent of new construction permits were for residential single-family houses. More than 2,700 residential units have been created at the end of October 2012 compared to 2,500 new homes in the same time period of 2011. Most of the construction was in the new suburbs of Evergreen, Rosewood, Hampton Village and Stonebridge.

In 2011, the city issued more than 4,600 building permits worth more than $936 million.
