Regina "hub" will feed export sales

South Saskatchewan will see a net benefit in jobs and investment due to the development of the Global Transportation Hub, according to Avison Young.

The 2,000-acre Hub, located west of Regina, will "ensure Saskatchewan becomes a major player in the Asia-Pacific market and Western Canada", the real estate company stated in its most recent look at North American commercial real estate.

The hub opened last December with a one-million-square-foot Loblaws distribution centre. At least two more firms have committed to space and it is expected half a dozen more will sign up over the next 18 months, Avison Young states. Construction of phase two of the Global Transportation Hub is expected to complete this December. The project includes new CP Rail yards, which relocated from downtown Regina, and improved highways.

According to the Fraser Institute, Saskatchewan's international exports increased 18.5 per cent last year and are poised to see considerable growth over the next decade. The institute notes that the province holds 47 per cent of all the agricultural land in Canada, 82 per cent of global uranium reserves and 50 per cent of all the world's potash reserves.
