A former jewel of downtown Winnipeg has been restored to its former glory.
In fact, you could be excused if, upon entering the completely revamped Metropolitan Theatre, you thought you'd entered a time warp.
Canad Inns, the Winnipeg-based hotel chain, has overseen the $20 million restoration of the 93-year-old building (which closed down a quarter-century ago as a movie house) right down to the original mouldings.
The civic and provincial governments each kicked in $1.5 million, with Canad Inns putting up the rest.u
