The most-anticipated retail arrival in Winnipeg's history now has a date: November 28. That's when Swedish furniture-maker IKEA will christen its 395,000-square-foot store.
Store manager Stephen Bobko is overseeing the final hires of a team that will number between 300 and 350 people. He has been inundated with more than 3,000 resumes since announcing hiring plans in June.
"It's clear that IKEA is the employer of choice in Winnipeg," he said.
Remarkably, IKEA also stands alone among other high-profile construction projects in Winnipeg for being on time. The new airport terminal building was a year late when it opened in the fall of 2011 and the new field for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers is a full season behind schedule.
