Urban-housing construction continues to show substantial growth in Saskatchewan.

During the first eight months of the year, housing starts increased by 70 per cent compared with the same period in 2009, a report from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. indicates. Starts are averaging more than 1,000 units per month.

Starts in August increased by 32 per cent across the province compared with August the year before.

Construction starts on single-family dwellings in August 2010 were up by 44 per cent, while multiple units were up by 22 per cent, compared with August 2009.
