Regina-area housing sales in May were down from the same month last year, according to the Association of Regina Realtors (ARR).

A total of 420 sales were recorded on the multiple listing service (MLS) system in Regina and surrounding area - the highest monthly total this year - but down 5 per cent from May 2012. The number of sales was well above the five-year average of 380 and 10-year average of 365 for May.

Year-to-date sales were down 20 per cent, with 1,437 homes sold to the end of May, the ARR reports.

The average sales price in the Regina area for the month was $322,029, a record high and an increase of 6 per cent from May 2012. The average in the city proper was $326,593, up from $313,337 posted last year.

"Although sales were down from last year, we did see the market rise to a new level since mid-2012," said Gord Archibald, executive officer of the association. "Buying activity is robust and demand levels seem to be rebounding after several months of pullback."
