Capital building stays on pace

Building permits totalled $37 million in April, down from $50.3 million for the same period last year, according to the monthly building permit report from the City of Regina.

But permit values for the year to date are still well ahead of last year's pace at $220 million versus $151.6 million for the first four months of 2010.

The biggest recent building permit issued was to WestRidge Construction Ltd. for a new school, valued at $16.1 million.

Several permits for more than $1 million were issued for condominium developments, retail space and the refinery expansion at Consumers' Co-operative Refineries Ltd.

The City of Regina issued 218 single-family dwelling permits valued at $34.4 million in the first four months, compared with 169 permits for $29 million during the same period last year.

Total building permits issued for the month were 217 versus 218 for April 2010, while total permits for the year to date were 747 versus 700 for the first four months of 2010.
