Brandon posts lowest vacancy rate in province

Brandon has the lowest apartment rental vacancy rate in the province, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC), and that is saying a lot. Across the province the average vacancy rate in urban centres is just 1.

Across the province the average vacancy rate in urban centres is just 1.6 per cent and the highest is 1.7 per cent, in Winnipeg.

The vacancy rate in Brandon is 0.7 per cent, CMHC reports, just slightly ahead of Thompson, where the rate is 0.8 per cent.

Rents are increasing at a rate of 3.7 per cent annually, CMHC says, despite provincial rent guidelines for increases of 1 per cent. Buildings constructed after 2001 or that have had renovations are exempt from the rent guidelines.
