Global Pet begins western expansion

Global Pet Foods Inc., based in Brantford, Ontario, is proceeding with a major expansion in Western Canada.

The company, which specializes in natural, organic pet foods, has 155 franchises across Canada, as well as two in the United States, in Connecticut.

Established in 1976, Global Pet Foods now has 15 stores in Alberta, including locations in Calgary, Airdrie and Cochrane.

According to an Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada report, Canada's overall pet food market jumped from $1.3 billion in sales in 2005 to $1.6 billion in 2010.

The cost of a Global Pet franchise includes a $30,000 fee and requires an investment level of from $100,000 to $200,000. There is a 4 per cent royalty fee and a 1 per cent advertising fee.
