A major cannabis producer that has facilities in Delta and across the country has announced a further expansion.

Zennabis, which has an indoor grow facility in an industrial space on Annacis Island, says it received federal licensing for its Atholville, New Brunswick cultivation facility to expand.

The company says if all facility space at Zenabis Atholville, Zenabis Stellarton, Zenabis Delta and Zenabis Langley is fully converted and dedicated to production, it will own, and have access to, 660,000 square feet of high quality indoor cannabis production space as well as 2.1 million square feet of greenhouse cannabis production space.

Zenabis, formerly called International Herbs Medical Marijuana Ltd., has a 25,000-square-foot “state-of-the-art facility” in Delta.

“This production is strategically positioned on Canada's coasts. Zenabis expects these facilities to have production capacity of 131,300 kg of dried cannabis annually by the third quarter of 2019. These facilities, if fully built out and converted for cannabis production, would have a design capacity to yield approximately 479,300 kg of dried cannabis annually, for both national and international market distribution.”

The company says an additional 700,000 square feet of greenhouse space will be used to continue an existing propagation business and produce industrial hemp, but can be converted to cannabis production “at such a time that is beneficial to the strategic position of the company.”

Zenabis last year announced it received a sales license from Health Canada which will allow the company to sell medicinal cannabis online to registered medical patients across the country.

Although Delta’s zoning does not allow marijuana dispensaries to set up stores in the city, that restriction does not apply to companies growing product here to conduct online sales.

The Zenabis brand name is used in the medical cannabis market, while the company’s Namaste and Blazery brand names are used for the recreational market.
