The Glasgow location is expected to open on Argyle Street by early May.

Tim Hortons has chosen Argyle Street in Glasgow as the location of its first UK store, to open this spring.

As of December 2016, there are 4,613 Tim Hortons franchises worldwide, according to parent company Restaurant Brands International (RBI). Sales have increased 2.5 per cent from 2015 to 2016. The Glasgow location signifies the start of a nation-wide expansion plan announced last summer.

“Great Britain is an attractive quick-serve restaurant market with a strong and growing coffee culture, so it is a natural fit for the brand,” said Daniel Schwartz, chief executive of RBI, in a press release.

Restaurant Brands International has partnered with UK franchise operator SK Group to bring the quick-service café to the region. SK Group was previously responsible for leading the Domino’s Pizza expansion in the UK.

According to Tims, the brand is responsible for eight out of ten cups of coffee sold in Canada.

“We’ve witnessed Tim Hortons phenomenal success in Canada and wanted to replicate this in Great Britain,” said Gurprit Dhaliwal, chief operating officer of Tim Hortons UK and Ireland.

Tim Hortons already has a strong presence in Canada, U.S. and the Middle East, according to RBI, and announced growth agreements with the UK, Mexico and the Philippines in 2016.
