This February, the British Columbia branch of the Canadian Bar Association issued an Agenda for Justice that includes the following recommendations for legislation to the B.C. government.
"Enact a Franchise Act. A Franchise Act for BC would fairly balance the interests of both parties and it would provide protection to small-business franchisees. "
If the province does enact a Franchise Act, it will be the sixth in Canada to do so, the Canadian Bar Association notes.
"Currently, the [franchise] law is a complicated patchwork of confusing rules," stated the Canadian Bar Association.
"The act would make it easier for business to resolve disputes, reduce court cases, reduce court time and increase clarity.
