Alberta's population has officially topped the 4 million mark. Statistics Canada counted 4,025,074 Albertans as of July 1.
Some highlights of the study:
• the province's recent population increase from 3 million to 4 million has been driven largely by migration;
• at 36.1 years, Alberta has the lowest median resident age of all the provinces, which creates momentum for further population growth;
• Alberta has the highest growth rate from natural increase (births minus deaths) of all the provinces relative to their population size; and
• the province has led the rest of Canada in employment growth in each of the past two years.
