Leduc annexation looking good

The City of Leduc is sounding positive it will be annexing lands in Leduc County sooner rather than later.

The City of Leduc is sounding positive it will be annexing lands in Leduc County sooner rather than later.

While negotiations with the county were scheduled to continue in late January, the city said its public consultation phase on a proposed land annexation of roughly 1,300 acres of county land went well in December.

"Nearly all the landowners impacted by the proposal have filed support for the proposed annexation and the proposed conditions of annexation," the city said in a news release.

Once negotiations with the county are complete the growing Highway 2 city near Edmonton International Airport will file an application for the annexation with the province's Municipal Government Board.

A hearing on the annexation, if deemed necessary, would be scheduled for later this spring.

Leduc, located less than 10 minutes south of Edmonton, recorded a growth rate of 5.5 per cent in 2012 and now has a population of over 25,400.
