Medicine Hat's dream of a regional event centre may not yet be realized, but the southeast Alberta city now has an agreement in place for locating an event centre/arena in Box Springs Business Park (BSBP) on the north side of the city.
The agreement specs out that BSBP will provide the city with 20 acres of land at a cost of $1. In return, the city will pay BSBP up to $2.8 million to service the land, on a progress payment basis, once city council actually approves construction of the facility.
"With this agreement in place, the city can focus on completing the design-build request for proposal process by May 2013," said city CAO Ray Barnard.
