Edmonton seeks public "big ideas"

The City of Edmonton is on a mission to find out from residents what they want to see in their new buildings.

The City of Edmonton is on a mission to find out from residents what they want to see in their new buildings.

The city is currently in the process of coming up with new design guidelines to control and shape growth in new neighbourhoods in the southeast, southwest and northeast sectors of the city.

The city is using an online consultation method to reach residents, and looking for what it deems "big ideas" to help prepare the guidelines.

"This is a key opportunity to influence how we build the great new neighbourhoods of the future," said Kalen Anderson, senior planner for sustainable development with the city.

"By preparing design guidelines for new neighbourhoods now, the city will be able to foster the development of unique, creative and innovative new neighbourhoods for these areas when the time comes to develop them."
