Gas-fired Medicine Hat aims to become Canada's leader in wind and solar power

Historians tend to think of Medicine Hat as the Gas City - the place with all hell for a basement.

This year, national news watchers may think of the region as flood prone, having seen rising waters and torrential June rains wreak havoc on suburban Irvine and low-lying parts of the city.

But what will we know Medicine Hat for in 2015 or 2020? If alternative energy proponents have their way, Medicine Hat will be a leader in renewable energy - wind and solar - as well as remaining a key centre for the oil and gas business in southern Alberta.
